In 2020, after 60+ years, the Australian Design Council was re-established as a not-for-profit industry body to advocate for a design-led future for Australia.
I joined as Acting General Manager responsible for the inaugural program How Design Transforms Business supported by industry champions Catherine Livingstone AO, David Thoday AO, Andrew Liveris AO, Professor Roy Green, Giam Swiegers and others. The program focused on the Food and Beverage sector, based on its potential for growth from a A$61bn to a A$200bn sector by 2030.
A key responsibility was writing and project managing a series of Case Studies profiling Australian F&B businesses that used a design-led mindset and practices to grow their business. I worked in partnership with the Federal Government’s Food and Agribusiness Growth Centre – Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL) – interviewing participants and drawing out the design story.
The Case Studies were written for Federal Government Ministers and advisors, delivered by hand by Australian Design Council members and used in a Government Roundtable to discuss how this success could be scaled at a sector/industry level. I also created a Communications Plan advising on promotion, and ran the Council’s LinkedIn account.
